Career Management has been a phrase on everyone’s lips for years. Yet still there is very little to assist those in Executive, Managerial & Professional positions to make sensible decisions about what direction to take, and when. As a result a significant number of people: End up on a path which on reflection they shouldn't really have taken Get seduced by the money & end up in a job they really don't like, with seemingly no chance of escape (assuming that the mortgage still needs to be paid) Believe that the momentum generated in the early part of a career will sustain itself indefinitely with mere platitudes & 'motherhood statements' about Career Development & Continous Learning. Start to believe their own press regarding their worth until the time comes when they have to test their value in the open market Believe that the Doctor/Dentist/Fireman/Firewoman/Accountant approach to Careers advice is all there is (and then only if you are aged 16-21) Still believe that the Organisation they work for is responsible for their career. “I would be happy to consider any opportunity that might be offered to me!” – Oh dear ! Believe that finding out what excites you & what you might be good at before you worry about how to turn it into an income stream, is akin to lunacy!
