Career Development Programme

Principles

  • Lots of executives work long hours responding to events and people that ultimately divert their attention away from what they need to achieve.
  • Being clear about key outcomes and then really committing makes a great starting position. Just in case you think it is, this is not about knowing which drawer you keep your Job Description in!
  • So if you really buy into the outcomes are you really able to translate that into how you spend your time or are you too busy alternately playing Arsonist and Fireman?
  • Spend your time on those activities that directly relate to the Key Outcomes and dump the other stuff. OK, if you like chocolates, fine! Have one occasionally but don’t eat a box every day!
  • Knowing what to do is the base line but star performers somehow seem to do things better/differently to the rest!
  • Demonstrate those behaviours that make a difference. Develop the critical skills and then use them when it really matters. Why is it that after all the hype a large % of MBA’s sink without trace? Technical skills make you available for team selection, behaviours get you in the team and keep you there.
  • Sometimes no matter how well you perform your best efforts seem to get thwarted by the world around you!
  • To give yourself the best chance of success you sometimes need to take responsibility for the world around you. And at least that’s better than blaming everyone and everything else when it all seems to be going pear shaped.
  •
